WELLESLEY, Mass. – Visiting Brandeis University defeated Wellesley College, 20-7, in women's fencing action on Wednesday evening at Wellesley. The Judges captured all three of the individual weapon battles, winning sabre and foil by matching 8-1 scores, and also picking up a tight 5-4 win in epee.

Wellesley's season record dips to 3-9 overall, while Brandeis improves to 8-4.

In the closest weapon competition of the evening, the Judges came away with a 5-4 win in epee. The match went back and forth through the early goings, and was tied at 3-3 with three bouts to go. Brandeis then pulled away, winning the two of the final three matches to seal the win. Kristen Ha picked up two wins for the Judges, while Gwendolyn Mowell, Alexis Gremillion and Rosa Zhang each added wins. For Wellesley, Charlotte Treadwell won twice, while Courtney Collins and Kathryn Ledbetter each added victories.

In foil, Brandeis won the first six matches, cruising to the 8-1 victory. Emilia Dwyer and Annette Kim each went 3-0 for the Judges, while Eva Ahmad picked up the other two wins. Wellesley's lone victory came from Camille Samulski.

In the sabre competition, Wellesley was overmatched, with only two eligible fencers in the weapon. Brandeis picked up the first eight victories, including three by forfeit, nabbing the 8-1 win. Zoe Messinger and Deborah Abiri were credited with three wins each to lead the Judges, while Emmily Smith finished 2-0. Wellesley's win came from Dania Wright in the final contested bout.

Brandeis is back in action on Saturday, traveling to Brown University for Northeast Fencing Conference action. Wellesley will also fence this weekend, hosting the 2013 Wellesley Invitational on Sunday.
