WORCESTER Mass. -- The #1 Wellesley College crew team competed in their second event of the weekend, racing more nationally ranked competition. The Blue competed against #3 Bates, #4 Trinity, #10 WPI, and #13 Rochester on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester.
Wellesley's varsity eight finished second overall in their race, narrowly coming in behind Trinity. The Bantams topped the field in 6:43.60 with Wellesley just .26 behind with a 6:43.86. Bates was third with a time of 6:45.98, followed by WPI (6:55.78) and Rochester (7:00.52).
In the second varsity eight race, the Blue finished third overall. Bates took the top spot with a 6:55.70 while Trinity was second in 6:57.52. The Blue recorded a time of 7:25.65 and finished ahead of Rochester (7:29.86) and WPI (7:32.14).
Wellesley's novice eight boat was second to Trinity in its race. The Bantams recorded a time of 6:58.10 to the Blue's 7:10.70. In the third varsity eight race, Wellesley was fourth with a 7:44.31, behind Bates (7:00.90), Trinity (7:12.13), and WPI (7:29.36).
Today's races served as the final tune-up for the Blue before the 2014 NEWMAC Championships. The event is Saturday, April 19th at Lake Quinsigamond. Wellesley will be looking for its fourth-straight title at the event.
