Blue Take Second In Women's Collegiate Eights at the 2021 Head Of The Charles

BOSTON, Mass. -- As they did in 2019, the Wellesley Varsity Eight took runner-up in the Collegiate Women's Eights at the 2021 Head Of The Charles Regatta (HOCR) on Sunday, October 24, on the Charles River in Boston. The Blue tied its best program best finish once again while also earning the honor as the fastest Division III team on the water.

The Wellesley's Varsity Eight Crew ended the race with a time of 17:19.578. The winning school, Division I Mercyhurst University, clocked in just a few seconds ahead at 17:16.794. The Blue had two entries in the Women's Collegiate Eights for the sixth consecutive HOCR race.

Wellesley's Second Varsity Eight (Bow 19) finished in 11th place with a time of 18:02.700 in the Women's Collegiate Eights. The Blue have now had a crew in the top-ten of the Women's Collegiate Eights in ten of the last eleven years. In the Women's Collegiate Fours, the Wellesley Varsity Four (Bow 13) finished at  20:50.833, good for 18th. Just behind them was the second Wellesley Varsity Four squad (Bow 32) who took 19th with a time of 20:52.483.

Founded in 1965, the HOCR is a three-day rowing event featuring many of the top rowers, teams and clubs from around the world. The Sunday event will close out the fall season for the Wellesley crew team.
