Wellesley Varsity Eight Places First at New England Rowing Championship

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Wellesley Varsity Eight (V8+) placed first for the first time in program history at the 2022 New England Rowing Championship on Lake Quinsigamond on Saturday. 

The V8+ began the day by winning the morning heat over Fairfield with a time of 6:43.166. The Blue would advance to the grand finale, where the V8+ boat rowed nearly 10 seconds faster (6:33.436) and just edged out No. 2 Bates who clocked in at 6:33.859.

In the Women's Second Varsity Eight (2V8+) event, the Blue won heat one with a time of 7:03.150 and advanced to the finals. Bates was able to come out on top in the final round with a time of 6:45.360. In second was Williams at 6:47.127 and the Blue took third at 6:53.714.

The Wellesley Third Varsity Eight (3V8+) was able to come away in first in heat two over Tufts with a time of 7:16.256. The boat would then take fourth place in the final race, lowering their time to 7:05.773 but Bates came out on top at 6:58.036. 

In their first race since mid-April, the Varsity Four (V4+) boat placed third overall with a time of 8:08.267. Bowdoin placed first at 8:02.681 and in second was WPI at 8:04.454.

The Blue Crew are once again on Lake Quinsigamond for the National Invitational Rowing Championship on Sunday, May 8 at 8:00 AM.
