Sharon Huang 12-0, Blue Fencing 4-1 at NFC Conference Meet No. 3

MEDFORD, Mass. - First year Sharon Huang (Toronto, Ontario) was a perfect 12-0 in sabre as the Blue went 4-1 on Sunday at the Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) Meet No. 3 hosted by Tufts. 

In addition to Huang's strong showing, foil squad had a standout day with a pair of 9-0 shutouts and two more 8-1 matches. First year Grace Xu (Toronto, Ontario) recorded nine wins for Wellesley, while seniors Hunter Dodrill (Boca Raton, Fla.), Kimberly Kimura (Los Angeles, Calif.), Sejal Saxena (Chappaqua, N.Y.), junior Edith Po (Bernardsville, N.Y.), and first years Gina Huang (Taipei, Taiwan), and Michelle Pan (Arlington, Mass.) all earned eight wins.

All three squads went 4-1 on the day, with only host Tufts able to defeat the mighty Blue fencing team.

Wellesley 25, Smith 2

Foil earned a 9-0 sweep while epee and sabre squad both took eight of nine matches. G. Huang, Po, Saxena, Dodrill, and S. Huang were all 3-0 against the Pioneers while Pan, Xu, first year Lily Millard (Selkirk, N.Y.), and sophomore Mia Chao (Washington, D.C.) each won two bouts.

Wellesley 23, Dartmouth 4

Foil picked up a second straight shutout with seniors Alexia Gilioli (New York, N.Y.), Isabella Stewart (Scarsdale, N.Y.), and Saxena all sweeping the Big Green. Kimura, Pan, and Millard all notched two more wins, while Xu added another for epee. Dodrill, S. Huang, Chao, and sophomore Makana Burch (Portland, Ore.) all won a match in sabre.

Tufts 17, Wellesley 10

All three squads had close defeats to the Jumbos. S. Huang shutout Tufts with three wins for sabre, while Xu, Kimura, and G. Huang had two wins for epee and foil. Gilioli added another victory for foil.

Wellesley 18, Sacred Heart 9

The Blue earned wins in all three disciplines, with an 8-1 win for foil. Po and Saxena both earned their second 3-0 shutout of the day, with Stewart snagging a pair of victories for foil. Kimura, Pan, and Xu combined for five wins in epee while S. Huang's 3-0 performance helped give sabre a 5-4 win.

Wellesley 21, Vassar 6

Gilioli and G. Huang went 3-0 while Po won two bouts to give foil an 8-1 squad win. Xu was undefeated and Pan won two matches for epee and Dodrill and S. Huang both went undefeated in sabre while Burch won two of three.

The Blue head to Drew University on February 19 for the Eastern Women's Fencing Conference (EWFC) Championships at 9:00 AM.
