Blue Fencing Falls in Thriller with Brandeis, 14-13

WALTHAM, Mass. – Despite wins from foil and epee squads, Wellesley College fencing narrowly lost 14-13 against Brandeis University on Tuesday evening.

Foil earned a 7-2 squad win for the Blue. First year Phoebe Li (Palo Alto, Calif.) earned a 3-0 sweep while classmate Lauren Khoo (San Francisco, Calif.) had two wins. Senior Edith Po (Bernardsville, N.J.) and sophomore Gina Huang (Taipei, Taiwan) both grabbed one victory.

Epee squad squeaked out a 5-4 win over the Judges. Sophomore Grace Xu (Toronto, Ontario) led the way with three wins. First year Alisha Li (Warren, N.J.) went 2-1 to give the squad the win.

Junior Makana Burch (Washougal, Wash.) picked up a win for sabre squad.

Next up, the Blue take part in the Eastern Women's Fencing Conference (EWFC) Championships at Drew University in Madison, N.J. on Sunday, February 18.
