WALTHAM, Mass. – Wellesley College volleyball (6-4) dropped a non-conference match at Brandeis University (10-8), 3-0, at Red Auerbach Arena on Saturday. The Judges won by scores of 25-14, 25-14 and 25-13.
Wellesley sophomore
Kate Giang (Corte Madera, Calif.) led the way with 14 kills on .257 hitting. Junior
Kaija Kunze-Hoeg (Eagan, Minn.) had a team best seven digs.
Brandeis took an 8-3 lead to begin the first set and used efficient attacking to win 25-14. The Judges compiled 13 kills on .462 hitting. Giang led the Blue with six kills.
Wellesley opened the second with a 4-1 spurt. Brandeis responded to take a 14-8 lead and force a Blue timeout. The home team continued to apply pressure at the net and won the set 25-14 behind 12 more kills.
Brandeis earned the sweep with a 25-13 victory in the third. The Judges hit .400 with 13 kills. Giang recorded six of the Blue's nine kills in the set.
Junior Anna Ertischek (Montgomery, Texas) and senior Lara Verstovsek (Houston, Texas) each had 10 kills to lead the Brandeis attack that finished the match with .441 hitting.
The Blue will return to Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse for a NEWMAC matchup with Coast Guard Academy at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, October 8. The Judges play that same day against Tufts University at 6:00 PM.
