Wellesley Volleyball Perfect Against Salem State, 3-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College volleyball (11-8 Overall) cruised to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-9) non-conference victory over Salem State University (2-21 Overall) on Saturday afternoon at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse.

Wellesley sophomore Caroline Meyer (Indianapolis, Ind.) hit .438 with eight kills to lead the Blue. First-year Else Kunze-Hoeg (Eagan, Minn.) also had eight kills to go with 16 assists, seven digs and four aces. Sophomore Evelyn Hill (Rocklin, Calif.) finished with six kills. Senior Rachel Xu (Beijing, China) contributed five kills on .375 hitting. Sophomore Noelle Winn (San Francisco, Calif.) registered 15 assists and three aces, while junior Kaija Kunze-Hoeg (Eagan, Minn.) led all players with 10 digs to go with three aces. 

First-year Bella Coccia (Westfield, Mass.) led Salem State with six kills. First-year Sabina Kamanda (Dracut, Mass.) and junior Presley Shairs (Salem, Mass.) added three kills apiece. First-year Keira Doherty (Woburn, Mass.) picked up eight digs. 

The Blue used a balanced attack in the first set en route to a 25-12 win. Giang, Else Kunze-Hoeg and Xu had three kills apiece, while the team combined for .350 hitting. Wellesley also used strong serving to create separation with six aces in the set. Coccia posted four kills for Salem State. 

After Wellesley raced out to a 6-1 lead in the second, the Vikings rallied by scoring the next five points to even the score. The teams traded the next several points, resulting in six ties, before Wellesley went in front 15-12. The Blue held on to the lead for the remainder of the set and won 25-15. Meyer tallied six of the Blue's 14 kills in the set and hit. 417. 

The Blue gained momentum in a convincing 25-9 third set. The team recorded 14 kills and a .385 hitting percentage. Wellesley finished the match with 38 kills and 14 aces. 

The Blue will close out a five game homestand at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 5 versus WPI. The Vikings return home to welcome Eastern Connecticut State at 6:00 PM that same day.
