WORCESTER, Mass. – Graduate student Lauren Meinhold (Boxboro, Mass.) tallied two goals for WPI to guide the Engineers to a 3-0 NEWMAC regular season finale victory over Wellesley College field hockey on Saturday.
Meinhold opened the scoring for the Engineers (10-6 Overall, 7-2 NEWMAC) off a scramble in front of the cage at 11:49 of the first quarter. The grad student rattled off a second goal early in the second quarter. Classmate Emily Sollecito (Bedford, Mass.) assisted off a penalty insert.
In the middle of the fourth quarter, junior Arie Lang (West Hartford, Conn.) took a pass from sophomore Chloe Luongo (Amherst, N.H.) and found the back of the cage to give the Engineers a 3-0 lead.
WPI led the shot battle 11-5 and both teams attempted six penalty corners. The Blue (9-9 Overall, 4-5 NEWMAC) got three saves from first year Hannah Simmonds (Austin, Texas) and the Engineers had two saves from senior Ella Moreau (Huntington, Mass.).
Both teams will await the release of the 2024 NEWMAC Field Hockey Championship Bracket to determine their next opponent.
