Wellesley Swimming & Diving Wraps Up MIT Winter Invite Competition

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving finished fifth out of six teams at the conclusion of the MIT Winter Invite at the Zesiger Center Pool on Sunday.

MIT won the team competition with 1944.5 points, followed by Tufts (1602.5), RPI (760), Simmons (279), the Blue (263) and Emory (157).

Senior Maya Hart (Menlo Park, Calif.) and first year Grace Hu (Andover, Mass.) both made the A final for the 200 Breaststroke. Hu claimed ninth with a 2:31.31 performance while Hart swam a 2:34.27 for 10th place. 

The 200 Medley Relay team took second in the B final with a time of 1:52.37. The team consisted of junior Emily Richardson (Bedford, N.H.), junior Lara Dashti (Kuwait City, Kuwait), senior Cecilia Cai (Palo Alto, Calif.) and first year Lily Fender (Burnsville, N.C.).

Richardson and sophomore Chloe Weingarten (Rochester, Minn.) went 5-6 in the 500 Free B final. Richardson had a time of 5:21.45 followed by Weingarten with a time of 5:26.76. 

Cai took 10th in the 100 Fly B final with a time of 59.31. In the event's C final, sophomore Chelsea Park (Long Beach, Calif.) (1:01.84) and senior Shawfong Hsu (Taipei, Taiwan) (1:04.88) both competed. Cai later placed eighth in the 200 IM B final, clocking in at 2:11.68, a personal best in the event.

Fender, Weingarten, Richardson and  Hart ended the weekend by finishing 12th in the 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:46.18.

First year Samara Burstein (New York, N.Y.) finished 16th in 1-Meter Diving with an 11-Dive score of 393.20.

Next up, the Blue will return from winter break in 2025 at WPI on January 14.
