BOSTON, Mass. – Wellesley College soccer scored three first half goals and defeated Simmons University 3-1 to start the 2024 season on Saturday.

First years Isabella Tolosa (Santa Clara, Calif.) and Emma Hogarth (Chandler, Ariz.) and sophomore Olivia Chow-Gillette (Dallas, Texas) all recorded their first career goal for the Blue (1-0). Tolosa added a pair of assists. Junior Sascha Fleesler (New York City, N.Y.) earned the win in goal for Wellesley.

First year Deanna Wild (Barre, Vt.) made four stops in goal for the Sharks (0-1).

Tolosa found the back of the net one minute and 23 seconds into the contest to give the Blue a 1-0 lead. Chow-Gillette doubled the lead at the 21:10 point, with Tolosa assisting on the play. Hogarth upped the Blue's advantage to three at the 33:39 mark off of a pass from Tolosa.

Simmons got on the board at 62:03 in the second half. A corner kick deflected off of a Wellesley player and into the goal, cutting the Sharks' deficit to two.

The Blue put up 13 shots and limited the Sharks to three. Wellesley took six corner kicks while Simmons had three.

Wellesley heads over to Endicott College for a 7:00 PM game on Wednesday, September 4. Simmons hosts Elms College at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 7.
