WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College began the 2024-25 season with the opening day of the Wellesley Invitational at The Amy Batchelor '88, Trustee, Tennis Courts. The team is competing against Babson College, Brandeis University, Trinity (Conn.) College and UC Santa Cruz.
Friday's action included doubles play amongst the teams. First-year duo
Sofia Corte-Real (Stamford, Conn.) and
Kotistha Modak (Chennai, India) came away with a 6-4 win over a tandem from Santa Cruz. Modak and Corte-Real earned their second win of the day with a 6-0 sweep of a team from Trinity.
First-year
Nandini Patel (Phoenix, Ariz.) and sophomore
Veda Madhusudan (Short Hills, N.J.) took down Shyla Khattar and Mariana Campos from Babson, 6-2. The Wellesley twosome then earned a 6-1 win over Trinity.
Sophomores
Lily Cade (Minneapolis, Minn.) and
Dalia Khera (Houston, Texas) later defeated Khattar and Campos 6-2.
Sophomore
Suzanne Xu (Boyds, Md.) and first-year
Sophie Buttorff (Tacoma, Wash.) combined for a 6-1 victory over a Brandeis duo. Xu and Buttorff also defeated a team from Trinity by a 6-4 score.
Sophomore
Kriti Sarav (Chicago, Ill.) and first-year
Rianna Mariotti (Forest Hills, N.Y.) teamed for a 6-2 victory against Trinity.
The Wellesley Invitational continues tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM with singles action.
