Blue Soccer Blanks Plymouth State, 2-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College soccer blanked non-conference foe Plymouth State University 2-0 on Wednesday.

Wellesley (3-2-1) took an early lead when senior Carrie Huang (Seattle, Wash.) sent a thru ball down the middle of the pitch that led to a breakaway from sophomore Olivia Chow-Gillette (Dallas, Texas). Chow-Gillette slipped the ball past the oncoming keeper into the left side of the goal to put the Blue in front less than four minutes into the match.

The Blue outshot Plymouth State 9-3 in the first half and held a 3-0 margin in corner kicks.

Less than two minutes into the second frame, Chow-Gillette and Huang combined once again to give the Blue a two goal advantage. Huang sent a long pass into the box where Chow-Gillette converted for the third time this season.

Wellesley outshot the Panthers 16-6 for the match and had a 6-0 advantage in corners.

Junior Riley McNair (Cupertino, Calif.) earned the clean sheet with two saves for Wellesley. Sophomore goalie Drea Oswell (Stafford Springs, Conn.) registered seven stops for the Panthers.

Today's match was the first ever meeting between Plymouth State (3-2) and Wellesley. The Panthers were shutout for the first time this season after entering the day averaging 4.25 goals per game.

Wellesley welcomes WPI for a NEWMAC matchup on Saturday, September 21 at 2:00 PM. Plymouth State hosts UMass Boston at 1:00 PM that same day.
