NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving defeated Smith College (157-139) and fell by a single point to Springfield College (148.5-147.5) at Smith's Dalton Pool on Saturday.
Senior Cecilia Cai (Palo Alto, Calif.) won the 200 Fly event with a top time of 2:11.4.6 First year Grace Hu (Andover, Mass.) placed second with a 2:19.16 performance. Cai later captured first in the 200 IM (2:14.03) and scored silver in the 100 Free (55.29).Â
Hu was the 100 Fly runner-up, coming in at 1:02.84. Sophomore Chelsea Park (Long Beach, Calif.) earned bronze with a 1:03.27 in the event.
The 200 Medley Relay team eked out a win over Springfield with a final time of 1:52.24.
Junior Emily Richardson (Bedford, N.H.) won a first collegiate event in the 500 Free, topping a nine competitor field with a 5:36.44 time. Additionally, Richadson recorded an 11:26.70 to finish second in the 1000 Free.
Junior Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.) and first year Lily Fender (Bursnville, N.C.) went 2-3 in the 100 Back. Liu took second at 1:00.98 while Fender touched the wall at 1:01.72. Fender went on to claim second with a time of 2:14.17 in the 200 Back. Liu (2:19.42) and Richardson (2:19.85) placed fourth and fifth respectively.
Junior Lara Dashti (Kuwait City, Kuwait) and senior Maya Hart (Menlo Park, Calif.) echoed the 2-3 result in the 100 Breaststroke. Dashti had a time of 1:09.71 and Hart clocked in at 1:12.00. Senior Shawfong Hsu (Taipei, Taiwan) was fifth in the event with a time of 1:13.91. Dashti (2:32.00) and Hart (2:36.18) repeated the finish order in the 200 Breaststroke. Hsu had a season-best time of 2:37.87 in the 200 Breaststroke.
Senior Ariana Mitsuoka (Centennial, Colo.) tied for the second spot in the 50 Free, coming in at 25.88. Mitsuoka was also third in the 100 Free with a time of 56.56.
First year Samara Burstein (New York, N.Y.) took fourth out of 11 in 3-Meter Diving, tallying 226.80 points and 1-Meter Diving with 216.45 points.
Wellesley returns to Chandler Pool to host its Senior Day against Babson College at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 1. Smith hosts Eastern Connecticut State University at 10:00 AM that same day. Springfield hosts Trinity that same day at 12:00 PM.
