FRANKLIN, Mass. – Senior Caitlin Windross (Eastvale, Calif.) collected a double-double with 11 points and a season-high 18 rebounds as Wellesley College basketball concluded non-conference play with a one-sided 70-40 performance at Dean College on Thursday afternoon inside Pieri Gymnasium.
The Blue (5-8) had no shortage of strong performances. First year Stacy Chen (Minneapolis, Minn.) set a new personal-best with 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting. Classmate Ava Shane (Plano, Texas) ripped down eight boards while supplying 15 points and went 5-of-6 at the foul line. Sophomore Trinity Barrow (Evans, Ga.) supplied five assists and picked off four steals.
Senior Alexandria Pauqet (Santa Maria, Calif.) and sophomore Abi Boutin (Rocky Hill, Conn.) both recorded 12 points for the Bulldogs (5-8). Paquet had a team-high eight boards while Boutin topped all individuals with six assists.
Dean sophomore Azaria Landry (Fort Gregg-Adams, Va.) opened the game with a three for Dean. Wellesley quickly went on an 11-0 run, featuring a pair of made three pointers from Chen. The Blue finished the quarter up 18-6, with Chen contributing 12 of the points. Windross came down with six rebounds in the frame.
Wellesley outscored Dean 11-10 in a close second quarter. Two baskets from Boutin cut the Blue's advantage to 20-11 a minute into the period. Wellesley then scored six unanswered. A Boutin three made it 29-16 to close out the first half of action. Windross ended the half in double figures on the glass for Wellesley.
The Blue put up the opening four points of the second half. The lead hovered between 15-20 for much of the quarter with a jumper from junior Arla Hofer (Las Vegas, Nev.) briefly putting Wellesley up 20 at 42-22 with 3:40 to go in the third. By the end of the quarter the score read Wellesley 47, Dean 29.
The winner was never in doubt in the fourth quarter with Wellesley finishing off a 70-40 performance. Windross completed the double-double with a late layup.
The Blue shot 27-of-62 (43.5%) as a team and limited the Bulldogs to just 23.0% shooting (14-61). Wellesley dominated the glass, snatching 62 rebounds to 24 for Dean.
Wellesley remains on the road for its NEWMAC Opener at Clark University on Saturday, January 18 at 3:00 PM. Dean wraps up a three game homestand versus Elms College on Saturday, January 11 at 3:00 PM.
