NEWPORT, R.I. – Wellesley College soccer fell at Salve Regina University, 4-0, in NEWMAC action on Saturday at Toppa Field.
Salve Regina (4-8-2 Overall, 2-4-1 NEWMAC) got on the board in the opening 10 minutes of action when senior Marissa Perachi (Washington Depot, Conn.) finished a pass from first-year Paige Jessuck (Waterford, Conn.).
The contest went scoreless for the next 47 minutes before the Seahawks doubled their lead in the 66th minute. Junior Allie Gallagher (Staten Island, N.Y.) sent a corner kick towards the box where senior Sara Wiejkus (Marshfield, Mass.) put home the second goal of the match.
Less than five minutes later, Wiejkus once again found the back of the net to put the home team in front by three.
The Seahawks added a fourth goal with 2:08 remaining on the clock off the foot of first-year Gianna Moreschi (Needham, Mass.) to secure the 4-0 victory.
Salve Regina senior Reagan Moffatt (Denville, N.J.) and sophomore Emelia DaPonte (Marshfield, Mass.) each worked a half to combine for the clean sheet. DaPonte came away with four saves. Senior
Riley McNair (Cupertino, Calif.) stopped a pair of shots in goal for Wellesley.
The Blue (6-6-2 Overall, 3-3-1 NEWMAC) finished the match with an 18-10 advantage in shots, while each team took six on target. Sophomore
Isabella Tolosa (Santa Clara, Calif.) led Wellesley with five total shots and two on goal.
Wellesley also held a 6-2 margin in corner kicks.
Next Wednesday, October 22, the Blue will host Springfield College for Pride Game at 3:00 PM. On that same day, the Seahawks will compete at Coast Guard Academy at 7:00 PM.
