SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving improved to 5-1 on the year with a one-sided 188-64 win at Mount Holyoke College on Saturday.
The Blue opened the day by capturing the 200 Medley Relay with first-year Sophia Owen (Honolulu, Hawaii), senior Kavita Sekhon (Los Angeles, Calif.), and first-years Lucy Choe (Ellicott City, Md.) and Margaret Lockman (Princeton Junction, N.J.) put up a 1:53.11 as a squad.
First-year Hannah Machleidt (Middleton, Wis.) won the 1000 Free competition, topping the field at 11:22.55. Junior Derim Timucin (Sakarya, Turkey) earned bronze with a time of 12:23.76. Machleidt later swam a 4:53.73 to win the 400 IM event.
First-year Alexis Kung (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) and senior Julia Reich (Bronxville, N.Y.) went 1-3 in the 200 Free. Kung claimed first at 2:00.42 while Reich was third, coming in at 2:09.07.
Senior Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.) (1:01.65), sophomore Lily Fender (Burnsville, N.C.) (1:02.10) and Owen (1:02.59) were the top three in the 100 Back. Liu was also first in the 200 Back, clocking in at 2:16.46.
Sekhon scored gold in the 100 Breaststroke, hitting the wall at 1:05.69. First-year Lana Richard (Oakland, Calif.) was second with a 1:08.58 time. Sekhon's winning ways continued in the 200 Breaststroke, where the senior won at 2:26.90. Richard finished first with a 5:28.43 performance in the 500 Free.
Zheng later collected first in the 100 Free, recording a 54.80. Kung was narrowly behind at 54.82 and Fender was next with a 57.61 time.
First-years Jolyn Zheng (Irvine, Calif.) (25.55), Adilene Dela Cruz (El Dorado Hills, Calif.)Â (26.30) and Choe (26.65) topped the 50 Free field.Â
Choe was a winner in the 100 Fly race, defeating all individuals with a 1:00.97 time.
Senior Elsa Marsden recorded the highest score in 1-Meter Diving, putting together a 228.95. Junior Grace Qiu (Concord, N.H.) finished second with 106.95 points. First-year Vicki Huang (San Diego, Calif.) captured bronze at 104.70 points.
Richard, Liu, Timucin and Sekhon ended the day in first place in the 400 Free Relay, pacing the field with a 3:52.09.
Both teams will be competing in invitationals on Friday, December 5. The Blue race at the MIT Winter Invite December 5-7. The Lyons travel to the RIT Invitational on December 5-6.
