CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior Arianna Doss (Houston, Texas) converted a shot 38 seconds into overtime to guide top-seed and No. 8 ranked MIT to a 1-0 NEWMAC Women's Soccer Championship Quarterfinals win over No. 8 seed Wellesley College.
MIT will now host No. 5 seed Wheaton College on Thursday, November 6.
The first half featured only one shot on goal from each side. Despite MIT taking 11 corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes, Wellesley's defense was up to the task, limiting Tech to seven total shots.
Blue senior Riley McNair (Cupertino, Calif.) saved three more shots in the second half, with the Blue standing tall to force overtime.
Less than a minute into the extra period, grad student Natalie Barnouw (Los Angeles, Calif.) sent a cross to Doss. Doss kicked it into the middle of the goal area where it deflected off of a Blue defender and into the goal.
The Engineers out shot the Blue 17-1. Tech attempted all 13 corners taken in the contest.
