Basketball Drops Season Opener to Lasell, 64-46

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College basketball dropped a 64-46 2025-26 season-opener to Lasell University Friday night at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse. The Lasers (1-0) led 28-20 at halftime and pushed the gap to 20 by the fourth.

Senior Laura Johnson (Groton, Conn.) stuffed the stat sheet with 20 points, 16 rebounds and three steals. Sophomore Abigail Duclos (Weare, N.H.) added in 14 points while junior Blaize Mack (Chicopee, Mass.) tacked on nine points with seven boards.

Junior Trinity Barrow (Evans, Ga.), sophomore Ava Shane (Plano, Texas) and first-years Tanvi Agarwal (Woodinville, Wash.) and Hailey Moy (San Francisco, Calif.) all had nine points for the Blue (0-1). Barrow tacked on seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Shane and Moy both had six boards.

Lasell opened the game with four points and expanded its lead to 9-1 by the 5:36 mark of the first. The Blue responded with five unanswered, including a jumper and made foul shot from Shane. At the end of the first, the Lasers led by one possession, 13-10.

The teams alternated scoring opportunities for the first five minutes of the second period. With three minutes left in the frame, the visitors expanded its edge to 28-18 on a jump shot from junior Erica Lendall (Peabody, Mass.). Shane went two-for-two at the line for Wellesley to make it 28-20 after one half.

The Lasers launched an offensive barrage in the early stages of the third, bringing the score up to 45-26. Lasell outscored the Blue 26-12 in the period, leading 54-32 with just 10 minutes remaining.

Wellesley won the final quarter, 14-10 with the game out of reach. Agarwal added seven points late in her first collegiate game.

Lasell shot 27-of-63 (42.9%) from the floor. The Lasers won the battle of the boards 45-33 with 16 second chance points. Wellesley scored 20 of its points in the paint and attempted 19 foul shots.

Wellesley remains at home on Wednesday, November 12 at 7:00 PM versus Worcester State University. Lasell plays at Eastern Connecticut State University that same day at 5:00 PM.
