WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving picked up wins over Merrimack College and Simmons University on Saturday at Chandler Pool. The Blue narrowly edged out Merrimack, 139-138, while winning a comfortable 217-49 decision over Simmons.
The Blue opened the day by winning the 200 Medley Relay. Seniors Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.), Kavita Sekhon (Los Angeles, Calif.), and first-years Alexis Kung (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) and Adilene Dela Cruz (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) teamed up for a 1:49.58 showing to earn gold.
Sekhon and first-year Lana Richard (Oakland, Calif.) were top two finishes in the 100 Breaststroke, coming in at 1:05.71 and 1:08.22 respectively. The duo repeated the 1-2 finish in the 200 Breaststroke, with Sekhon winning at 2:27.27 and Richard in second at 2:29.09.
Richard topped the 200 IM with a 2:14.31 time. Sekhon finished second at 2:17.40.
Kung broke the 1-minute mark in the 100 Back, topping the competition at 58.91. First-year Sophia Owen (Honolulu, Hawaii) scored bronze at 1:01.73. Kung also won the 50 Free with a 25.31 second showing and 200 Back at 2:08.55. Sophomore Lily Fender (Burnsville, N.C.) was second in the 200 Back with a 2:11.40 time.
First-year Hannah Machleidt (Middleton, Wis.) and senior Julia Reich (Bronxville, N.Y.) went 2-3 in the 1000 Free. Machleidt claimed second with a personal-best time of 11:22.56 while Reich was third at 12:08.99.
First-year Jolyn Zheng (Irvine, Calif.) swam a 2:20.40 to win the 200 Fly race. Zheng was also the runner-up in the 200 Free, hitting the wall at 2:01.05.
Senior Elsa Marsden (Vienna Va.) captured silver in 1-Meter Diving, scoring 202.65 points. First-year Vicki Huang (San Diego, Calif.) and junior Grace Qiu (Concord, N.H.) competed in their first collegiate event. Huang ended with 110.93 points while Qiu claimed 106.58.
First-year Lucy Choe (Ellicott City, Md.) took home bronze in the 100 Fly, touching the wall at 1:01.67.
Choe, Machleidt, first-year Jessica Zhao (Beijing, China), Reich raced the 200 Free Relay, coming in at 1:43.46 for third place.
The Blue are back in action at Chandler Pool on Friday, November 14 versus Coast Guard Academy.
