Sekhon Earns NCAA B Cut on Day Two of MIT Winter Invite

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Kavita Sekhon (Los Angeles, Calif.) earned an NCAA B Cut and Wellesley College swimming & diving sits in sixth after two days at the MIT Winter Invite at Zesiger Center Pool on Saturday. 

Sekhon was the runner-up in the 100 Breaststroke "A" finals, earning the NCAA B mark with a 1:02.96 time. First-year Lana Richard (Oakland, Calif.) also made the "A" finals of the event, placing 10th with a time of 1:07.06.

First-year Alexis Kung (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) won the 100 Back "B" finals, topping the field at 57.98 seconds. First-year Lucy Choe (Ellicott City, Md.) swam a 59.06 and was third in the "B" finals while first-year Sophia Owen (Honolulu, Hawaii) (1:00.27) and sophomore Lily Fender (Burnsville, N.C.) (1:00.61) took eighth and ninth respectively in the same race.

In the 400 IM "B" finals, first-year Hannah Machleidt (Middleton, Wis.) recorded a 4:51.49 time to earn ninth place.

First-years Jolyn Zheng (Irvine, Calif.) and Margaret Lockman (Princeton Junction, N.J.) took sixth and seventh respectively in the 200 Fly "C" finals. Zheng hit the wall at 2:23.20 while Lockman finished at 2:23.50.

During the 400 Medley Relay, Liu, Sekhon, Choe and Kung completed the race in 3:54.47 to capture sixth.

In the 200 Free Relay "B" Finals, Kung, Sekhon, Richard and Liu finished third at 1:38.94. Choe, Zheng, first-year Jessica Zhao (Beijing, China) and Fender took seventh in the event at 1:40.94. Machleidt, Owen, senior Julia Reich (Bronxville, N.Y.) and first-year Adilene Dela Cruz (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) won the "C" finals by posting a 1:42.15.

Senior Elsa Marsden (Vienna, Va.) scored 17th in 3-Meter diving with an 11-dive score of 324.15.

The competition includes No. 5 MIT, No. 4 Denison University, No. 10 Tufts University, No. 21 Middlebury College, RV RPI, regionally ranked Hamilton College, and Simmons University. No. 1 Emory University will be attending for diving events only.

Competition continues tomorrow at 10:00 AM.
