CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving finished sixth out of nine teams on the final day of the MIT Winter Invite at Zesiger Center Pool on Saturday.
The competition included No. 5 MIT, No. 10 Tufts University, No. 21 Middlebury College, RV RPI, regionally ranked Hamilton College, and Simmons University. No. 1 Emory University and No. 4 Denison University attended for select events only.
Host MIT won the team competition, followed by Tufts, Hamilton, Middlebury, RPI, the Blue, Emory, Simmons and Denison.
Seniors Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J), Kavita Sekhon (Los Angeles, Calif.) and first-years Lucy Choe (Ellicott City, Md.) and Alexis Kung (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) opened the night by taking third in the 200 Medley Relay "A" finals. The quarter came within three tenths of a second of a Blue program record with their final time of 1:44.22 and earned an NCAA B Cut.Â
Sekhon claimed bronze in the 200 Breaststroke "A" finals, putting together a 2:20.88 performance within half of a second of the runner-up.
In the 200 Back "A" final, Kung claimed fifth, hitting the wall at 2:06.43. In the event's "B" finals, sophomore Lily Fender (Burnsville, N.C.) (2:13.33) and Liu (2:14.79) finished eighth and ninth respectively. First-year Sophia Owen (Honolulu, Hawaii) nabbed eighth in the "C" finals at 2:15.47.
Kung swam a 53.19 and added a win in the 100 Free "B" finals. The race's "C" finals featured first-year Jolyn Zheng (Irvine, Calif.) taking ninth with a time of 54.88.
In the 200 IM "B" finals, first-year Lana Richard (Oakland, Calif.) captured silver by recording a 2:09.53 time.
Choe topped the 100 Fly "C" finals field, leading the pack at 58.70.
First-year Hannah Machleidt (Middleton, Wis.) won the "C" final race of the 500 Free event, with a winning time of 5:15.14. Also competing in the "C" final were seniors Julia Reich (Bronxville, N.Y.) (7th - 5:41.38), Leah Butler (Eugene, Ore.) (9th - 5:45.04) and first-year Margaret Lockman (Princeton Junction, N.J.) (10th - 5:50.38).
Zheng, Sekhon, Richard and Kung closed out the competition in 11th place of the 400 Free Relay, posting a 3:37.27 mark.
After winter break, Wellesley competes at WPI on Tuesday, January 13 at 2:00 PM.
