Blue Swimming & Diving Tops Babson 146-138 on Senior Day

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving topped Babson College 146-138 to improve to 6-6 on the season at Chandler Pool on Saturday.

Prior to the meet, Wellesley recognized three seniors for their contributions to the Blue. The seniors honored were Cecilia Cai (Palo Alto, Calif.), Maya Hart (Menlo Park, Calif.) and Shawfong Hsu (Taipei, Taiwan).

Cai nabbed the top spot in the 200 Fly, recording a season-best time of 2:09.30. First year Grace Hu (Andover, Mass.) was third, clocking in at 2:13.87. Cai later won the 100 Free, setting a PR with a winning time of 54.68. Cai made it a trio of victories with a 4:41.56 showing in the 400 IM.

Junior Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.) won the 100 Back competition, pacing the field with a season-best time of 1:00.44. The junior then notched another win in the 200 Back, winning with a time of 2:14.15. Liu added a third place finish in the 50 Free, hitting the wall at 26.61.

In the 100 Breaststroke, junior Lara Dashti (Kuwait City, Kuwait) collected first place, touching the wall at 1:07.05. Senior Ariana Mitsuoka (Centennial, Colo.) (1:10.35) and Hart (1:10.65) went 3-4 in the race. Dashti and Hart grabbed the top two spots in the 200 Breaststroke with respective times of 2:29.03 and 2:32.40.

First year Samara Burstein (New York, N.Y.) clinched first in 1-Meter Diving with a personal-best score of 245.55. Burstein also won 3-Meter Diving with a score of 226.35.

The 200 Medley Relay team of Liu, Dashti, Cai and Mitsuoka captured gold with a 1:49.96 performance.

Junior Emily Richardson (Bedford, N.H.) took second in the 1000 Free, coming in at 11:21.37. Classmate Leah Butler (Eugene, Ore.) finished fourth in the event with a personal-best time of 12:32.61. Richardson made it two second place finishes in the 500 Free, clocking in at 5:34.88.

Sophomore Chloe Weingarten (Rochester, Minn.) put together a 2:03.74 showing to take silver in the 200 Free.

The Beavers return to Morse Pool on Saturday, February 8 to welcome Springfield College. The Blue are off until the NEWMAC Championships, hosted at WPI in Worcester, Mass. from February 20-23.
