WORCESTER, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving competed in several "A" and "B" finals on day three of the NEWMAC Championships, held at WPI.

MIT remains in the lead of the team competition with 1113 points. Coast Guard Academy (506) and Wheaton College (449) make up the current podium. Springfield College (446), WPI (303), Babson College (301), the Blue (300), Smith College (220), Mount Holyoke College (145.5) and Clark University (140.5) round out the teams.

Senior Cecilia Cai (Palo Alto, Calif.) snapped up the eighth spot in the 200 Free "A" final, hitting the wall at 1:56.94. In the event's "B" final, first year Lily Fender (Burnsville, N.C.) claimed fifth, clocking in at 1:59.16. Juniors Julia Reich (Bronxville, N.Y.) and Leah Butler (Eugene, Ore.) finished 38th and 39th with times of 2:08.66 and 2:08.77. 

Seniors Ariana Mitsuoka (Centennial, Colo.) and Maya Hart (Menlo Park, Calif.) captured ninth and tenth in the 100 Breaststroke "A" final. Mitsuoka was ninth at 1:08.52 while Hart was just behind with a 1:08.54 performance. The Blue were also represented in the "B" final. Senior Shawfong Hsu (Taipei, Taiwan) scored sixth with a time of 1:10.41. Park captured 26th in prelims, tapping the wall at 1:14.69.

Also in ninth in an "A" final was Junior Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.) (59.84) in the 100 Back. Fender qualified for the "B" final and came in with a 59.30 time to win the event.

Sophomore Chloe Weingarten (Rochester, Minn.) and first year Grace Hu (Andover, Mass.) finished third and fifth in the 400 IM "B" final. Weingarten snagged third with a PR of 4:44.04. Hu took fifth, coming in at 4:46.05.

Liu, Hart, Cai and Mitsuoka narrowly missed the podium in the 200 Medley Relay. The squad's 1:48.35 time inched past Coast Guard to earn fourth. Fender, Hsu, Park and Hu were the runner-ups in the "B" final with a time of 1:53.42.

Sophomore Chelsea Park (Long Beach, Calif.) finished 25th overall in prelims of the 100 Fly, coming in at 1:02.23.

The final day of the championships starts at 10:00 AM tomorrow, with finals taking place at 6:00 PM.
