WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College tennis swept non-conference opponent Trinity College on the indoor courts at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse on Saturday. The Blue improved to 5-1 on the season while Trinity drops to 0-1.
Wellesley won all three of the doubles matches to grab an early 1-0 lead. No. 2 and 3 doubles had identical 6-1 scorelines. Sophomore Lily Cade (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Kriti Sarav (Chicago, Ill.) defeated junior Elise Brennan (Valatie, N.Y.) and first year Brennan Damond (San Francisco, Calif.) at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Suzanne Xu (Boyds, Md.) and first year Sophie Buttorff (Tacoma, Wash.) pushed past sophomores Naisha Rathi (Westbury, N.Y.) and Hellena Trojer (Reading, Mass.) at No. 3.
Blue junior Emilee Pak (Chicago, Ill.) and first year Rianna Mariotti (Forest Hills, N.Y) completed the shutout in doubles with a 6-4 performance at No. 1 versus Trinity senior Ella Baker (Gladstone, N.J.) and junior Allie Francis (Westport, Conn.).
First year Sofia Corte-Real (Stamford, Conn.) opened singles with a clean 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles over Nathia. Xu soon followed with a 6-3, 6-1 tally at No. 2 singles with Francis.
Wellesley first year Kotistha Modak (Chennai, India) won at No. 1 singles against Baker in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0 to clinch the match.
Cade put together a 6-0, 6-2 win in strong fashion over Damond at No. 6. First year Nandini Patel (Phoenix, Ariz.) soon made it six unanswered points with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 4.
Mariotti finished the Blue's 7-0 scoreline by taking out Trojer 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.
Wellesley has a quick turnaround. The team travels to Bates College for a 1:00 PM match tomorrow. The Bantams will return home to host Smith College at 4:30 PM on Thursday, March 6.
