No. 35 Blue Tennis Closes Out Spring Break with 7-0 Win with George Fox

ORLANDO, Fla. – No. 35 Wellesley College tennis finished its Spring Break trip undefeated with a clear cut 7-0 win versus George Fox University at the USTA National Campus midday Friday. The win marks the ninth of the year for the Blue, who have only lost a single match.

Wellesley claimed No. 1 and 2 doubles, while the Bruins (8-4) picked up No. 3. No. 1 and 3 doubles finished at nearly the same time, but with opposite results. Wellesley junior Emilee Pak (Chicago, Ill.) and first-year Rianna Mariotti (Forest Hills, N.Y.) defeated sophomore Riley Bobkiewicz (Star, Idaho) and sophomore Shanah Denham (Happy Valley, Ore.) 6-3 in the top spot. Blue sophomore Dalia Khera (Houston, Texas) and first-year Nandini Patel (Phoenix, Ariz.) fell by the same scoreline to senior Cassey Hitch (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and junior Sophie Denham (Happy Valley, Ore.).

At No. 2 doubles, sophomore Lily Cade (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Sophomore Kriti Sarav (Chicago, Ill.) continued their winning ways, picking up a 6-3 win over senior Kalli Wiker (Sequim, Wash.) and senior Arianna Rader (Lynden, Wash.)

Cade kept the Blue's winning ways going in singles, easing to a 6-3, 6-0 victory versus senior Abigail Bond (Tumwater, Wash.) at No. 6. Patel followed closely behind, only losing two games in a 6-1, 6-1 affair with Sophie Denham at the No. 4 line.

Sophomore Suzanne Xu (Boyds, Md.) clinched the fourth and deciding point for the Blue, snatching every single game from Bobkiewicz in a 6-0, 6-0 masterclass at No. 1.

First-year Sophie Buttorff (Tacoma, Wash.) pushed the margin to 5-0 by taking out Shanah Denham, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 3. Sarav added No. 5 singles to the Blue's bounty by coming out with a 6-4, 6-1 scoreline over first-year Juhree Kizziar (Sisters, Ore.).

Wellesley first-year Sofia Corte-Real (Stamford, Conn.) grabbed the final point for Wellesley in the No. 2 singles place. The first year advanced past Wiker, 6-3, 6-4 to co complete the shutout.

Up next, Wellesley returns to Mass. to begin NEWMAC season at Springfield College on Saturday, March 29 at 12:00 PM. George Fox squares off with Centre College in Orlando, Fla. on Monday, March 24.
