WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College track & field was victorious in its tri-meet with Smith College and Mount Holyoke College at Butler Stadium and the throws field on Sunday.
The Blue topped team competition with 80 points, while both Mount Holyoke and Smith had 58 points each.
Following to the game Wellesley acknowledged six seniors for their contributions to the Blue. The seniors honored were Charlotte Adams (Cincinnati, Ohio), Charlie Barron (Chattanooga, Tenn.), Erin Dickinson (Papillion, Neb.), Aoife Fitzgerald (Paxton, Mass.), Alicia Naranjo-Champion (El Monte, Calif.), Merete Ogah (Austin, Texas)
Ogah won the 100m, hitting a career-best mark of 12.73 that qualified for the New England DIII Championships. First-year Ellie Wolf (Irvine, Calif.) pointed in fourth place, crossing at 13.06. Wolf went on to top the 200m field, leading the way at 26.41 seconds. Ogah scored silver in the dash, coming in at 26.92.
First-year Maya Sharar (Andover, Mass.) was the top performer in the Hammer Throw, marking at 34.58m. In the Discus Throw, junior Kenya Francis (Atlanta, Ga.) and Sharar topped the competition. Francis won the event with a distance of 31.94m and Sharar took second at 31.58m.
Sharar (10.11m), Francis (10.10m) and first-year Maggie Berlinger (Ashby, Mass.) (8.99m) were the top three finishers in the Shot Put, with all three hitting personal bests.
In the Javelin Throw, it was Blue first-year Julia Carmona (Bronx, N.Y.) leading the way with a distance of 30.46m.
Junior Simone Beauchamp (Aurora, Colo.) and first-year Leah Willis (Mercersburg, Pa.) competed in the 3000m Steeplechase. Beauchamp placed first with an 11:24.57 while Willis took second with a 13:46.93.
Junior Emily Brydges (Suffield, Conn) added a second place finish with a time of 10:28.86 in the 3000m. First-year Adelaide Maguire (Oakland, Calif.) (11:41.82) and sophomore Perry Huang Kemper (Boise, Idaho) (12:48.14) both competed in the race.
Dickinson Long Jump mark of 5.20m was good for third place and a New England DIII Championships qualifying mark. First-year Abigail Choi (Fair Lawn, N.J.) (4.58m) and junior Dova Koretsky (Pepperell, Mass.) (4.17m) each competed in the event. Dickinson (10.14m) and junior Claire Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.) (9.94m) went 3-4 in the Triple Jump.
Junior Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) finished third in the 1500m with a 4:51.58 performance. Naranjo-Champion (5:14.35) and first-year Leeya Rice (Closter, N.J.) (5:26.85) took eighth and ninth respectively. Later, Whinney claimed second in the High Jump with a 1.45m height.
In the 400m, Barron and junior Sara Maeve Klingensmith (Chapel Hill, N.C.) captured third and fourth respectively. Barron placed third, coming in at 1:02.82 while Klingensmith was just behind with a 1:03.27 time.
Fitzgerald 18.20 time in the 100m Hurdles was good for third place. Fitzgerald later was the runner-up in the 400m Hurdles (1:09.17) while Beauchamp was fourth in the event (1:14.48).
Peng added a bronze in the 800m, clocking in at 2:21.86.
Barron, Fitzgerald, Peng and Whinney won the 4x400m Relay at 4:07.44.
Dickinson, Ogah, Klingensmith and Wolf combined forces to grab second in the 4x100m Relay at 49.47 seconds.
Up next, the Blue will compete at the two-day NEWMAC Championships in South Hadley, Mass. on April 25-26.
