NEW LONDON, Conn. – Wellesley College track & field senior Merete Ogah (Austin, Texas) won the 200m race and the team finished sixth out of 13 teams at the Coast Guard Invitational on Saturday.
Host Coast Guard Academy won the competition with 96 points. Connecticut College captured second with 91 points and Vassar rounded out the top three with 89 points.
Ogah defeated 33 other runners with a leading 26.57 mark in the 200m dash. Earlier, Ogah bettered a career best 100m time for the second straight week by coming in second place among 35 runners with a time of 12.77, only .02 seconds from a New England DIII mark. First-year Ellie Wolf (Irvine, Calif.) was 15th in the 100m dash, coming in at 13.49.
Junior Emily Brydges (Suffield, Conn.) earned a New England DIII mark in the 5000m, snatching up third out of 27 with an 18:11.23 time that currently ranks No. 99 in Division III. First year Adelaide Maguire (Oakland, Calif.) (19:54.87) and sophomore Perry Huang Kemper (Boise, Idaho) (21:45.43) also ran in the event.
Senior Erin Dickinson (Papillion, Neb.) placed fourth in the Triple Jump, hitting a 10.56m mark that was .09m off of qualifying for the New England DIII meet. Dickinson then earned fifth in the Long Jump with a distance of 4.89m.
The 400m Hurdles race saw senior Aoife Fitzgerald (Paxton, Mass.) take home bronze among 14 competitors with a time of 1:10.50.
Junior Claire Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.) grabbed seventh by putting together a 2:25.54 time in the 800m. First year Leah Willis (Mercersburg, Pa.) finished 14th in the event, hitting the finish line at 2:36.30.
In the Javelin Throw, first year Julia Carmona (Bronx, N.Y.) threw for 26.94m and snagged eighth place out of 29.
In the 400m, senior Charlie Barron (Chattanooga, Tenn.) clocked in at 1:03.01 to secure a top-10 spot in ninth place out of 28.
Junior Kenya Francis (Atlanta, Ga.) (35.11m) and first year Maya Sharar (Andover, Mass.) (32.83m) took ninth and tenth in the Hammer Throw. The duo also went 11-12 out of 31 in the Shot Put. Francis took 11th with a distance of 9.60m while Sharar was just behind with 9.55m. Francis finished the day with a distance of 30.75m in the Discus Throw, good for fifth.
Additionally, first year Maggie Berlinger (Ashby, Mass.) (26.80m) and junior Dova Koretsky (Pepperell, Mass.) (22.03m) competed in the Hammer Throw.
In a 75 competitor 1500m field, junior Simone Beauchamp (Aurora, Colo.) collected 21st, hitting a PR with a 5:04.25. First year Leeya Rice (Closter, N.J.) (5:22.61) and sophomore Maggie Yan (Montvale, N.J.) (5:49.61) both competed in the event.
The 4x100m Relay team Dickinson, Ogah, Barron, and Wolf finished second out of five with a time of 51.70.
Wellesley next competes at the Silfen Invitational in New London, Conn. on Friday, April 11.
