Box Score WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College soccer cruised to a 4-0 non-conference victory over UMaine Farmington on Saturday afternoon at home.
The Blue (3-1-1) raced out to a 2-0 lead in the opening nine minutes of the contest. Five minutes in, first-year Elena Garcia (Atlanta, Ga.) ripped a shot into the lower right side of the goal off a feed from sophomore Isabella Tolosa (Santa Clara, Calif.).
Less than four minutes later, Tolosa doubled the Wellesley advantage with a tally, assisted by Garcia, also into the right side of the net.Â
In the 18th minute, Wellesley was awarded a penalty kick after a UMF foul in the box. Garcia calmly stepped to the spot and beat the keeper to give the Blue a 3-0 advantage.Â
Wellesley tacked on a goal in the 82nd minute on senior Alisha Faheem's (New York, N.Y.) first career tally to account for the 4-0 victory.Â
Senior Riley McNair (Cupertino, Calif.) worked a scoreless first half with one save, while first-year Olivia Lore (Blue Bell, Pa.) did not face a shot in the final 45 minutes.Â
Senior Paige Gonya (Sabattus, Maine) made 15 saves for the Beavers (2-2).Â
Up next, Wellesley begins a three-game stretch of away contests at Plymouth State University on Wednesday, September 17 at 4:00 PM. UMF will return home to welcome Vermont State University Lyndon at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, September 16.
