WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College volleyball rose to the occasion with an impressive 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-18) non-conference victory versus Regis College on Thursday night at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse. The win moves the Blue up to 11-5 on the year while dropping the Pride to 16-4.
Senior Emily Goldstein (Houston, Texas) was highly efficient, recording six kills with a .500 percentage and five blocks, including one solo. Junior Else Kunze-Hoeg (Eagan, Minn.) notched a 28 assist, 10 dig double-double for Wellesley. Classmate Ella Mancuso (North Andover, Mass.) added eight kills and four block assists while senior Caroline Meyer (Indianapolis, Ind.) reached 20 digs.Â
The Pride were led by 17 digs from sophomore Gwen Arnold (West Hartford, Conn.). Junior Alexandra Rivera (Bristol, Conn.) assisted on nine kills and snagged eight digs. Senior Grace Fabiano (Greenland, N.H.) registered four block assists.
The first set was the closest, with several alternating runs from both sides. A key 5-0 stretch gave the Blue a 17-16 lead with momentum. Regis knotted it back up by 21-21. A kill from senior Evie Hill (Rocklin, Calif.) and an ace from Sarah Jin (San Jose, Calif.) made it 23-21 for the Blue. The Pride took the next point before Hill and Mancuso added kills to the statsheet to close the period out.
The Blue took a 9-5 edge in the second. A 5-0 swing in the middle of the frame made it 19-11 for Coach Dorothy Webb's team. Regis mounted a 5-0 rebuttal to get the deficit back to three at 19-16. However, three was as close as it got, with the Blue taking the final three points of the set and going up 2-0.Â
Wellesley blitzed out to a 7-1 score in the third. The visitors cut it to two at 7-5 but Wellesley slowly grew its margin to six by 16-10. Despite late efforts, Regis never closed the distance, with a Jin kill finishing off the straight-set win.
Up next, Wellesley welcomes Clark University on Senior Day this Saturday, October 17. Regis hosts Dean College at 11:00 AM that same day.
