SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – After a scoreless first 80 minutes both Wellesley College soccer and Springfield College scored in the final 10 as the two squads fought to a 1-1 NEWMAC tie at Brock-Affleck Field on Wednesday.
After 81 minutes of a defensive stalemate, the Pride (3-10-1 Overall, 2-5-1 NEWMAC) finally found the back netting on a shot. Sophomore Katie McFerran (Selkirk, N.Y.) converted after receiving a pass from junior Peyton Knott (Leicester, Mass.).
A minute later, the Blue (5-6-4 Overall, 2-3-3 NEWMAC) erased the one-goal deficit and ensured the visitors would not be shut out; courtesy of a goal by first-year Maya Fraser (Leverett, Mass.). Fraser's tally was a team-leading fourth of the season.
Sophomore Olivia Lore (Blue Bell, Pa.) earned a trio of saves for Wellesley while senior Mallory Forgatch (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) stopped a shot on goal for Springfield.
The Pride finished with a 15-12 shot advantage. Springfield took eight corner kicks while Wellesley finished with three.
Next up, the Blue will return home for Senior Day on Saturday, October 24 at 1:00 PM against Clark University. The Pride will play that same date and time at Emerson College.
