WALTHAM, Mass. – Wellesley College volleyball fell 3-0 (25-21, 25-25-19, 25-20) in a non-conference matchup at Brandeis University on Thursday night.
First-year Kennedy Hillson (Decatur, Ga.) led the Judges (11-14) with 10 kills. Junior Alexa Ho (Queens, N.Y.) put up 29 assists with five aces.
The Blue (12-11) saw seven kills and 24 assists by junior Else Kunze-Hoeg (Eagan, Minn.). Classmate Ella Mancuso (North Andover, Mass.) recorded nine kills with five block assists while sophomore Brianna Milliken (Newton, Mass.) had three solo blocks and five block assists.
The Judges recorded 13 kills in the opening set. A key 6-0 stretch made it 14-5 for the hosts. While Wellesley whittled the deficit down to two at 19-17 and even one at 22-21, Brandeis held the comeback at bay with three straight points to end the frame.
The second set began close, with each team having four-point runs. By 18-13, Brandeis slowly put space between the two squads and further cemented the lead with four unanswered points. A kill points the finishing touch on a 25-19 set.
The teams were tied 10-10 in the third. The Judges gained a bit of momentum and went up by four at 20-16. A late Wellesley effort was in vain as Brandeis ended the match with a Hillson kill.
On Tuesday, November 3, the Blue will return to Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse to host Emerson College in a 7:00 PM NEWMAC contest. The Judges will play Coast Guard Academy and Emerson College on Saturday, November 7.
