COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Wellesley College field hockey junior
Hannah Simmonds (Austin, Texas) has added to her impressive week of accolades by earning National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Defensive Player of the Week honors.
The NFHCA National Player of the Week program honors an offensive and defensive player of the week, in each division, throughout the season.
Simmonds stopped seven shots in Wellesley's 1-0 shutout of MIT last Saturday and helped the Blue defend 13 MIT penalty corners to protect the one-goal lead. With the win, the Blue secured Wellesley's first win over MIT since 2018 and Simmonds earned NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week honors.
Simmonds and the Blue head to No. 17 Babson College in the NEWMAC Semifinals tomorrow night at 6:00 PM.
The NFHCA is a community of coaches for coaches. Since 1992, the NFHCA has connected and supported field hockey coaches through education, leadership, recognition, advocacy, and community. What began as a collegiate coaches association expanded in 1996 to include club and scholastic coaches, strengthening the NFHCA into a nationwide network that now supports more than 1,700 coaches across all levels of the game.
