Cougars Roll to 68-51 Win over Blue Basketball

WELLESLEY, Mass. – 10 different players recorded points for Clark University in a 68-51 NEWMAC win versus Wellesley College basketball at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse on Wednesday night. The win pushes the Cougars to 16-6 Overall and 7-1 in conference play. The Blue drop to 9-12 Overall and 3-5 in NEWMAC matchups.

Junior Catherine Antwi (Lowell, Mass.), sophomore Cyriah Coleman (Los Angeles, Calif.) and first-year Atiya Watson (Los Angeles, Calif.) all registered 13 points each for the Cougars. Watson snatched five steals and junior Olivia Shipley (Castleton, Vt.) grabbed seven rebounds. Clark went 25-for-56 (44.6%) shooting as a team on the night.

Sophomore Ava Shane (Plano, Texas) led all individuals with 17 points and eight rebounds. Junior Trinity Barrow (Evans, Ga.) supplied 13 points, seven boards and five assists to the cause.

After Wellesley took an early 7-5 lead, Clark went on a 14-0 run over the course of the final seven minutes of the first quarter, including nine second chance points.

The Blue reset early in the second period, using a 6-0 run to make 19-13, punctuated by a fastbreak layup from Barrow. Clark's lead remained in the high single digits for most of the remainder of the period. A 4-0 burst in the final minute gave Clark a 34-22 advantage at halftime.

The Cougars' margin rose to 17 early in the third frame, when a three from Antwi put the visitors up 41-24. After three quarters of play the scoreboard read Clark 53, Wellesley 34.

Wellesley never got back to single digits, though the team outscored Clark 17-15 in the final period to make it 68-51. Shane added several baskets for the hosts while first-year Tanvi Agarwal (Woodinville, Wash.) drained a shot from behind the three-point line late.

Up next, the Blue will play at Springfield College on Saturday, February 14 at 2:00 PM. Clark hosts Babson College at 3:00 PM that same day.
