Sekhon's Gold, 200 Medley Relay's Silver Highlight Swimming & Diving's Third Day at NEWMAC Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving continued its top-tier performance on the third day of the 2026 NEWMAC Championships at MIT's Zesiger Center Pool. Wellesley remains in third out of 10 in the team standings, trailing only MIT and Coast Guard Academy.

Senior Kavita Sekhon (Los Angeles, Calif.) became the 100 Breaststroke "A" finals champion for the second time in her career, after winning the event back in 2024. Sekhon's time of 1:03.10 earns an NCAA "B" cut and a NEWMAC First Team All-Conference honor. First-year Lana Richard (Oakland, Calif.) also made the "A" finals, taking seventh with a 1:07.41 showing. In the event's "B" finals, first-year Jessica Zhao (Beijing, China) claimed ninth with a time of 1:10.73.

The 200 Medley Relay added a NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference accolade, taking second in the "A" finals and setting a Blue program record with a 1:43.30 time that earned a NCAA "B" cut. In the "B' finals, sophomore Lily Fender (Burnsville, N.C.), Richard, junior Chelsea Park (Long Beach, Calif.) and Zhao were the runner-up with a 1:49.27 time.

In the 100 Back "A" finals, first-year Alexis Kung (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) made a statement with a 57.38 time that took fifth. Senior Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.) was just one spot behind in sixth with a 57.68 time. First-year Lucy Choe (Ellicott City, Md.) (58.88) and Fender(58.89) earned eighth and ninth place respectively. In the race's "B" final, first-year Sophia Owen (Honolulu, Hawaii) defeated the competition with a leading 59.78 time.

Jolyn Zheng (Irvine, Calif.) was the 200 Free "A" finals 10th place finisher, completing the race at 1:58.91.

In the 100 Fly "B" finals, Choe was the winner, leading the pack at 57.53. Park came in eighth at 1:01.77 in the event. First-year Margaret Lockman (Princeton Junction, N.J.) closed in tenth with a 1:02.94 time.

First-year Hannah Machleidt (Middleton, Wis.) was second in the 400 IM "B" finals, coming in at 4:49.89. Junior Chloe Weingarten (Rochester, Minn.) took seventh in the event, touching the wall at 4:56.19.

Competition continues tomorrow, with prelims beginning at 10:00 AM.
