WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College lacrosse fell to the University of Hartford, 17-3, at Butler Stadium on Tuesday.
Sophomore Amelia Woodard (Montpelier, Vt.), sophomore Charlotte Petersen-Kopman (St. Louis, Mo.), and first-year Milica Simic (Park Ridge, Ill.) each scored for Wellesley (2-2). First-year Fran Primoli (Stillwater, Minn.) contributed an assist, two ground balls, and a game best three caused turnovers. First-year Kalei Kieu (Scarborough, Maine) registered a game-high four ground balls to go with two caused turnovers.
The Hawks (1-3) were led by a four-goal effort from sophomore Kate Zonin (North Smithfield, R.I.). Zonin also had a game-high four draw controls. Juniors Lauren Samela (Cheshire, Conn.) and Talei Ricketson (Centennial, Colo.) recorded four points apiece on two goals and two assists.
Junior Katie Graham (Colchester, Conn.) opened the scoring for the visitors with a goal 1:29 into the contest. Hartford added seven more goals in the quarter for a 8-0 lead after 15 minutes. Ricketson led the Hawks with two goals and two assists in the frame.
Zonin scored twice in the first 4:30 of the second to give Hartford a 10-0 advantage. Wellesley broke through, with less than four minutes to play in the half, when Woodard finished a pass from Primoli to make the score 10-1. The Hawks answered two minutes later with a tally by sophomore Brenna Slattery (Wilbraham, Mass.). Hartford added one more in the final seconds for a 12-1 lead at the half.
Hartford received goals from five players in the third to increase the lead to 17-1.
Petersen-Kopman and Simic scored for Wellesley to account for the only scoring in the fourth to make the final 17-3.
Junior goalie Mandi Rivard (Vernon, Conn.) made one save in 18 minutes of action to earn the win for the Hawks, while junior Emily Campbell (Plainville, Mass.) played the remaining 42 minutes with three goals allowed and nine saves.
Senior Anna Blake Patrick (Portland, Ore.) had two saves in 12 minutes for Wellesley, while first-year Scarlett McArthur (Toronto, Ontario) stopped six shots in 48 minutes.
Wellesley next plays at MIT in NEWMAC play on Saturday, March 14 at 12:00 PM. Hartford travels to Keene State University at 4:00 PM on Thursday, March 12.
