No. 36 Tennis Shuts Out Salve Regina, 7-0

NEWPORT, Mass. – No. 36 Wellesley College tennis grabbed a 7-0 victory at Salve Regina University on Saturday. The Blue are now 10-4 Overall, 4-1 NEWMAC on the year. The Seahawks dropped to 4-11 Overall, 1-6 NEWMAC.

At No. 2 doubles, Junior Kriti Sarav (Chicago, Ill.) and first-year Luna Bian (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) made quick work of senior Sadie Rieg (Carlisle, Pa.) and junior Madigan Murphy (York, Maine), winning all six games of a perfect set.

No. 1 locked up the doubles point with junior Suzanne Xu (Boyds, Md.) and sophomore Sophie Buttorff (Tacoma, Wash.) with a 6-1 score over juniors Anna Grace Hjerpe (Northborough, Mass.) and Kaydin Pinto (Acushnet, Mass.).

Sophomores Rianna Mariotti (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and Nandini Patel (Phoenix, Ariz.) matched the 6-1 showing at No. 3 doubles, defeating seniors Cayla Dolan (Cheshire, Conn.) and Sloane Nelson (Island Heights, N.J.).

Juniors Dalia Khera (Houston, Texas) and Veda Madhusudan (Short Hills, N.J.) each recorded 6-0, 6-0 blanks at No. 3 and 6 singles. Khera swept Murphy at No. 3 while Madhusudan shut out Rieg at No. 6.

Mariotti was the clinch point at No. 4, only dropping one out of 13 games in a 6-1, 6-0 effort against Hjerpe.

Buttorff made it 5-0 with a first career win in the No. 1 singles spot. Buttorff put up a pair of 6-2 sets to get by Pinto.

At No. 2 singles, first-year Praslin Hayes (Robbinsville, N.J.) collected a 6-2, 6-1 victory over junior Stephanie Davis (Kinnelon, N.J.).

Junior Lily Cade (Minneapolis, Minn.) finished the sweep at No. 5, putting together a 6-0, 6-3 showing versus first-year Sophia Padro (North Haven, Conn.).

Wellesley competes at Babson College tomorrow, beginning at 12:00 PM. Salve Regina travels to Clark University on Saturday, April 25.
