WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College soccer junior Solveig Unteroberdoerster (Washington, D.C.) scored a pair of goals to give the Blue (3-1-1) a third straight win with a 2-0 shutout of Maine Maritime Academy at home on Saturday. Unteroberdoerster picked up a seventh and eighth career score.Â
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, Unterberdoerster connected in the 52nd minute. A setup pass from first-year Areet Rao (Palo Alto, Calif.) gave the junior a one-on-one matchup with the keeper. A flick to the middle left part of the goal gave Wellesley the 1-0 edge.Â
The Blue nearly doubled the lead a few minutes later, with a good shot from sophomore Elena Garcia (Atlanta, Ga.) being called back when the team was offside.
Coach Margolis' squad added a score tally in the 80th minute when a cross from Garcia set Unteroberdoester up for another look. This time it was the right side netting that felt the impact of the shot.
Blue sophomore Olivia Lore (Blue Bell, Pa.) stopped both shots on goal and recorded a fourth shutout in five games for Wellesley.Â
The Mariners (2-2) saw senior keeper Isa Thesing (Sulphur Springs, Texas) make eight stops in goal.
The Blue will make the short trip to Brandeis University to battle the Judges on Wednesday, September 16. The Mariners return tomorrow at Mount Holyoke College for a 12:00 PM showdown.
