Blue Volleyball Records Fifth Straight Shutout with Win over Salem State

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College volleyball made it five sweeps in a row with a 3-0 (25-6, 25-12, 25-12) masterclass against Salem State University on Tuesday night inside Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse. The Blue (5-2) have now won 15 straight sets for the first time since 2014.

Wellesley hit .286 as a team with 28 kills across the three sets. Senior Noelle Winn (San Francisco, Calif.) contributed eight assists and tied with first-year Rachel Fagin (Gaithersburg, Md.) for a game-high eight digs. Junior Ella Mancuso (North Andover, Mass.) smashed six kills with a .556 attack percentage while first-year Ashyn Nam (Los Angeles, Calif.) registered a trio of aces.

The Blue blitzed out to a 10-1 lead and never gave up an inch in the first frame. The team's 14 kills were accompanied by a white-hot .375 hitting percentage.

The second set saw much of the same, with the Vikings (0-8) never back within five after 9-4. Wellesley was efficient, making only a single attack error in the set and putting up a .438 attack percentage.

A 5-1 stretch in the third made it 9-4 Wellesley, as the hosts soon put adequate distance on the scoreboard to close out a 3-0 shutout.

Sophomore Vanessa Guimaraes (Springfield, Mass.) was the Salem State kills leader with five. Senior Celia Carbone (Lynnfield, Mass.) assisted on 12 kills and had six digs.

Wellesley heads up to Biddeford, Maine to take on the University of New England on Saturday, September 19 at 4:00 PM. Salem State will welcome Clark University on Thursday, September 17.
