WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College tennis won its first dual-match of the season, 7-0, over NEWMAC opponent Emerson College (1-0) on Saturday at The Amy Batchelor '88, Trustee, Tennis Courts.
The Blue opened the match up with a sweep of the doubles lines. Senior Veda Madhusudan (Short Hills, N.J.) and first-year Zoe Li (Boca Raton, Fla.) opened things up with a clean 6-1 defeat of junior Abigail Miner (San Diego, Calif.) and first-year Rachael Pantaleoni (Austin, Texas) at No. 3 doubles.
Both No. 1 and 2 doubles recorded 6-3 scorelines. At No. 1 doubles, senior Suzanne Xu (Boyds, Md.) and sophomore Luna Bian (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) defeated sophomore Teah Login (Huntington, N.Y.) and first-year Elora Hooge (Los Angeles, Calif.).
Wellesley first-years Sophia Liang (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and Kakou Narita (Tokyo, Japan) earned the victory at No. 2 over senior Kendi Bispham (Tortola, British Virgin Islands) and first-year Lily Roman (Newport Beach, Calif.).
Junior Sophie Buttorff (Tacoma, Wash.) only lost a single game in a 6-0, 6-1 point at No. 4 singles against senior Amaya Briones (Mexico City, Mexico).
Senior Lily Cade (Minneapolis, Minn.) soon followed suit at No. 6 singles, taking down senior Gianna Di-Reumante (McLean, Va.) with 6-0 and 6-2 sets.
Junior Nandini Patel (Phoenix, Ariz.) and senior Kriti Sarav (Chicago, Ill.) won at near identical times to give Wellesley the win at No. 3 and 5 singles. Patel beat Roman, 6-2, 6-2. Sarav was victorious, 6-3, 6-2 over first-year Bianca Bush (New York City, N.Y.). Bian made it 6-0 for Wellesley at No. 2 singles, notching a 6-0, 6-2 win against Login.
No. 1 singles was the most competitive of the day, with Xu outlasting Hooge 6-4, 7-5 in two competitive sets.
Wellesley remains home in a NEWMAC showdown with Salve Regina University at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, September 22.
