WORCESTER, Mass. – Wellesley College soccer picked up a 2-0 shutout at Worcester State University to improve to 1-1-1 on Sunday at John Coughlin Memorial Field.
First-year Rachel Burns (Scottsdale, Ariz.) connected on a first collegiate goal late in the first half in the 41st minute. Senior Zoe Stephens (Chicago, Ill.) set Burns up and received an assist for the effort.
Wellesley kept its foot on the gas in the second half, scoring a second goal in the 61st minute. Sophomore Elena Garcia (Atlanta, Ga.) kicked in a fifth career goal while first-year Areet Rao (Palo Alto, Calif.) assisted on a first collegiate goal.
Despite 19 shots from the Lancers (0-2), Wellesley's defense kept its foes off of the scoreboard. Sophomore Olivia Lore (Blue Bell, Pa.) made seven stops and recorded a second shutout of the season in just three games. Lore's save percentage now sits at .950 with 19 saves against only one goal allowed.
Next up, the Blue will play in its home opener at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, September 9 versus UMass Boston. The Lancers welcome Clark University on that same date at 7:00 PM.
