BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Wellesley College field hockey dropped a 2-0 contest on a road trip at Bryn Mawr University on Saturday at Shillingford Field. The Owls improved to 1-1 on the year while the Blue fell to 0-2.
Both goals came on the board in the opening quarter. 13 minutes into the game, First-year Nadine Roddy (Ballymena, Northern Ireland) converted a shot after a penalty corner led to a blocked shot and a scramble.Â
Less than a minute later, sophomore Julia Ward (Cincinnati, Ohio) doubled the Bryn Mawr lead by connecting on a shot off of a pass from senior Ilona Bender (Pittsburgh, Pa.).Â
Despite being held off of the scoreboard, Wellesley and Bryn Mawr both put seven shots on goal. The Blue earned six penalty corners, while surrendering 10 to the Owls.
Senior Alex Butulis (Raleigh, N.C.) and sophomore DeeDee McCarron (Melrose, Mass.) each put a pair of shots on goal for Wellesley. Sophomore Katelyn Hurt (Dallas, Texas) stopped four shots in the cage.
Sophomore Sydney Wright (Malvern, Pa.) made seven saves and earned a shutout for Bryn Mawr.
The Blue will return to Butler Stadium on Wednesday, September 9 for a 6:00 PM matchup with top ranked Tufts University. The Owls take on Arcadia University at 6:00 PM on the same day.
