Wellesley Field Hockey Rolls Past MIT, 6-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Wellesley College field hockey team remained unbeaten in conference contests this season, posting a 6-0 victory over MIT at home on Saturday.  The Blue now stand at 7-3 overall (3-0 in the NEWMAC) and the Engineers fall to 5-8 (0-3).

Wellesley got on the board twice in the first four minutes behind goals from Kate Cushing and Sally Scudder, and the Blue maintained control of the game from the outset.  Whitney Reid  added a third goal just before the half, notching the fourth goal of her first collegiate season.

The Blue continued to control the game in the second half, dominating in the MIT end and holding the Engineers to only four shots on the day.  Katie Frett  opened scoring in the second with an unassisted goal, and Scudder and Maddie Block  added two scores to run the final tally to 6-0.

Wellesley goalkeepers Emily Hewitt and Sarina Sawyer went largely untested each tallying a save in 35 minutes of work.  Keri Dixon was busy between the posts, recording 19 saves for the Engineers.

Wellesley out shot MIT 43-4 on the day and held a 15-4 advantage in penalty corners.

The Blue return to action on Tuesday for a 4:00 home match-up against WPI. The Engineers are idle until next Saturday when they host Smith in a 1:00pm game.
