AMHERST, Mass. -- The Wellesley College tennis team had a
successful day one at the New England Women's Intercollegiate
Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) on Friday. Wellesley entered three teams
into the two-day tournament, with two Blue pairs advancing in the
winner's bracket.
Wellesley's top pair was Jacqueline Shen and
Diana
Granger, followed by Kendall Tada and
Erica
Choo, and Morgan Johnstonbaugh and
Raji
Nagalla. Each team played one doubles match
against their opponents and then two singles matches. The
pair that took two out of three matches advanced to the next
round.
Shen and Granger had a tough draw in the first round of the Gail
Smith "A" flight, as they competed against the top pair from
Williams and fell 3-0.
In the Chris Davis "B" flight, Tada and Choo paired up for a 3-0
victory over the Conn College's third team. Johnstonbaugh and
Nagalla also advanced to the second round, notching a win over the
#2 pair from Salve Regina.
