NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- The Wellesley College tennis team breezed
to an 8-1 victory over Smith College in Saturday afternoon NEWMAC
action. The win improves Wellesley to 6-2 overall, with a 4-1
mark in NEWMAC play.
Wellesley opened play taking two out of the three doubles
matches. Jacqueline
Shen and Diana Granger posted an 8-3
win over Jaimi Inskeep and Gianna Teague in the first flight, while
Nathalie
Herman and Raji
Nagalla defeated Nicole Anderson and Maggie Steiner,
9-7 at two. In the third flight Smith's Clair Oblamski and
Eunice Zhao eeked out an 8-6 victory over Wellesley's Mika
Asaba and Elena
Bowen.
With a 2-1 lead, Wellesley swept through all six singles matches
to earn the 8-1 overall victory. Shen was dominant at one,
winning 6-0, 6-0, while Choo posted a 6-2, 6-4 win at two.
Herman was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at three, with Tada winning 6-3, 6-1
at four. Rounding out the action, Granger was a 6-0, 6-1
winner at five and Johnstonbaugh won 6-3, 7-5 at six.
The Blue are back in action on Tuesday hosting Babson at
5:00pm.
