SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Second-seeded Coast Guard Academy posted a 3-0 win over third-seeded Wellesley College in the 2010 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) semifinals on Saturday at Springfield. The result pushes Coast Guard (28-5) in to the finals against #1 Springfield. Wellesley ends its season at 18-9.
Coast Guard won three tight sets, taking the overall match 26-24, 25-21, 25-21. The Bears were led by nine kills and a .412 hitting percentage from Lauren Bloch, while Catherine Walker, Keriann Mason and Kelsey DePorto each added eight kills. Karen Matic and Jessica Anderson each picked up 13 digs for Coast Guard, while Matic posted 34 assists and DePorto recorded 5 blocks.
For Wellesley, Taylor King led the way with 12 kills and a .385 hitting percentage. She also picked up three blocks for the Blue. Elizabeth Campbell notched and 11-kill, 17-dig performance, while Isabel Custodio and Amanda Duritsch tallied eight kills each. Custodio and Victoria Peng shared setting duties, notching totals of 23 and 15 assists.
