Lyndsay Rossi (Pennington, NJ) scored unassisted at 29:11, as
Drew got the initial goal in a tight first half. Wellesley
answered with two-straight scores, one from Caitlin
Meeker (Columbia, MD) assisted by Meagan
Fuchs (Portland, OR) and the other from a free-position
shot by Molly Morrow (Bow, NH), to put the Blue
ahead, 2-1.
The teams then traded scores with Stacie Brown (Upper Marlboro,
MD) converting for Drew and Loretta White
(Northampton, MA) tallying for Wellesley to make it 3-2 in favor of
the home team. However, the Rangers got back-to-back scores
from Aileen Musynke (Floral Park, NY) and Rossi to take their first
lead at 4-3 with 8:07 remaining in the half.
Wellesley regained posession with 1:45 to play and held the ball
until Morrow found Jenny Holland (Bethesda, MD)
streaking across the circle. Holland hit the back of the net
and sent the game into halftime tied at 4-4.
The Blue opened the second half with a goal from Fuchs, but Drew
pushed back with three straight scores as Emily Mastella
(Catonsville, MD), Musynke and Sloane Coles (The Plains, VA) made
it 7-5 in favor of the visitors. Wellesley then tied it up,
with back-to-back goals from Meeker, with 16:13 to play.
From that point on, Drew took control of the game. A
Jasmine Cordi-Miller (Whippany, NJ) goal made it 8-7 Drew, while
two scores from Cara Jeffries (Central Square, NJ) pushed the
Ranger lead to 10-7. Brooke Connell (Little Silver, NJ) then
scored off of a Brown assist to open an 11-7 lead, the largest of
the game. Wellesley got one back as Fuchs scored unassisted
with 1:42 remaining, but it wasn't enough as Drew held on for the
11-8 victory.
For Drew, Musynke notched a three-point game with two goals and
an assist, while Rossi, Browm, Coles and Jeffries all added two
points each. Defensively, Leann Trimarchi (Bridgewater, NJ)
caused two turnovers and added three ground balls, while Christina
Lanzilotta (Turnersville, NJ) had two caused turnovers and two
ground balls. Coles led the team with five draw conrols,
while Brown added four. In goal for the Rangers, Rachel
Hanley (Randolph, NJ) picked up the victory with an 11-save
performance.
Wellesley was led by four points (one goal, three asssists) from
Morrow, while Fuchs and Meeker eached added three points.
Allison Robbins (North Bennington, VT) led th team
with three draw controls, while Katie Saylor (San Diego, CA) and
White each added three caused turnovers. Mary Mattia
(Atlanta, GA) picked up eight saves and three ground balls in goal
for the Blue.
Drew is back in action tomorrow at 1:00pm at Babson College.
Wellesley next plays on Thursday night in a 7:00pm non-conference
match-up at Endicott College.
