Box Score Wefald racked up a career best eight goals en route to becoming
the first player in program history to surpass 200 for her career.
It was the fifth game in a row that she has recorded five goals or
more. The captain finished day with nine points for the third time
in her career.
Mount Holyoke also received solid production from junior
attacker Clara Raugei, who found the net four times.
Sophomore attacker Hilary Bombard delivered a hat trick, while
senior midfielder Perry Markell came up with 14 of the Lyons 25
draw controls.
Senior attacker Molly Morrow (Bow, NH)
regisered five points on three goals and two assists to lead the
way for Wellesley. The Blue also received a boost from junior
attacker Jenny Holland (Bethesda, MD), who posted
two goals. Classmate Kate Cushing (Danvers, MA)
chipped in with a goal and a helper for guests, who entered the
game riding a two game winning streak.
Mount Holyoke scored the first six goals of the contest and led
12-3 at the 5:57 mark. The hosts took a 13-5 edge into the locker
room and led by as many as nine goals on four occasions in the
second stanza. Wefald netted four goals in each half.
In addition to piling up a 25-6 advantage in draw controls,
Mount Holyoke also outshot the Blue 32-22. Both sides finished with
17 ground balls.
Sophomore Jeanmarie Petersen got the start between the pipes for
the Lyons. She made two saves in 23:18 before giving way to senior
Jessica Brezicha, who stopped four shots in 36:42. On the other
end, junior goalkeeper Mary Mattia (Atlanta, GA)
came up with seven saves for Wellesley.
Both squads will resume their league slates on Tuesday. Mount
Holyoke (6-4, 1-2 NEWMAC) will visit Springfield College at 7:00
p.m., while Wellesley (4-7, 1-1 NEWMAC) will entertain Babson
College at 4:30 p.m. The Lyons final home game of the year will be
on Tuesday, April 20 at 7:00 p.m. versus longtime rival Smith
College.
