Babson opened the scoring with goals from Alyssa Hood (Newport,
RI) and Collins to pick up a 2-0 lead, eight minutes into the
game. Wellesley battled back to tied the score at 2-2 at the
18-minute mark, backed by goals from Molly Morrow
(Bow, NH) and Meagan Fuchs (Portland, OR).
The visitors then picked up back-to-back goals, as Trisha Babson
(Duxbury, MA) scored off of a Kaitlyn Pettengill (Hopkinton, MA)
assist and Ellen McCurdy (Weston, MA) converted a free-position
shot to put Babson back on top, 4-2. Wellesley would counter
with a score from Loretta White (Northampton, MA)
to cut the lead to 4-3 at 13:04, but the Blue would get no closer,
as Babson finished out the period with four straight scores to take
an 8-3 advantage into the break.
The teams traded goals to open up the second half, with McCurdy
adding her second tally of the afternoon for the Beavers and White
scoring for the Blue. From that point on, however, the game
belonged to Babson. The Beavers scored six straight goals,
while holding Wellesley off the board until the final minute of
play to cement the 16-5 victory, the program's 28th-straight NEWMAC
triumph.
Collins' six goals led the offense for Babson, while McCurdy and
Hood added three goals apiece. Trisha Babson and Pettengill
each recorded three points while Taylor Kralovenec (Cos Cob, CT)
rounded out the Beavers offense with a solo score.
Defensively, Pettengill caused five turnovers while also recording
four ground balls and two draw controls. Between the pipes,
Sarah Macary (Woodbury, CT) tallied 10 saves, including stopping
all three free-position shots on goal.
For Wellesley, White finished with two goals and an assist for
three points, while Morrow tallied two points on a goal and an
assist. Fuchs and Jenny Holland (Bethesda, MD) also added
goals for the Blue. Nicole Labbee (Flornce,
MA) led the Wellesley defense with four caused turnovers and four
ground balls, while Mary Mattia (Atlanta, GA) made
11 saves in net for the Blue.
Babson is idle until Tuesday, April 20th when the Beavers host
MIT in a 4:30pm NEWMAC match-up. Wellesley is back in action
on Saturday, traveling to Springfield for a 3:00pm conference
clash.
