The win improves the Pride to 7-5, 3-2 in league play and snaps
its three-game losing skid. The Blue drop to 4-9, 1-3.
In the victory, senior Allie Bazzano netted a game-high four
goals, while classmate Jenn Zubkus added three goals and an assist.
Graduate student Erin Doolan chipped in with two goals and an
assist, while senior netminder Lauren McAulay registered 10 saves
while allowing just five goals.
Wellesley jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening 8:38 of the
game as Loretta White and Molly Morrow tallied unassisted goals to
force a Springfield timeout.
Out of the break, Springfield scored six unanswered goals as
Zubkus, Bazzano, Doolan, Meagan Dobson, and Jackie Moscardelli each
found the back to provide the Pride with a 6-2 advantage.
Morrow added her second goal of the opening half with 5:56 to
play to make it a 6-3 game, only to have Springfield score five
goals in a 1:57 span to take complete control of the contest.
The Pride's lead grew throughout the second half until a Bazzano
free-position goal closed out the scoring with 14:33 remaining,
making it a 17-5 ballgame.
Dobson added three goals and an assist, while Brittany LeGuelaff
recorded two goals off the bench. Moscardelli was credited with
five draw controls in the victory to go along with her two
goals.
Morrow finished the game with two goals and two assists to lead
the Blue, while Jenny Holland scored two goals and added an assist
in the loss. Mary Mattia made 12 saves between the pipes for
Wellesley.
The Pride will close out the regular season with three road
games beginning on Tuesday afternoon against Williams at 4:30.
Wellesley continues its NEWMAC slate with a 4:30pm match-up at
Wheaton on Tuesday.
